WotLK Classic is fun even when you're short on time
#1
Wrath of the Lich King, the new expansion for WoW Classic, was released on September 27th. 2 weeks after release, fans are talking about whether the game is still fun and find many reasons for it.

This is the state of WotLK Classic:

Since September 27th, tens of thousands of players have been playing WotLK Classic again. Since the release, there are still long queues at times to be able to play on the big servers.
On October 7th the first 3 raids opened: Naxxramas, the Obsidian Sanctum and the Eye of Eternity. All three were defeated just an hour after release.
Where some players race through the endgame content, others take their time and enjoy the addon they fell in love with years ago.
The rush to WotLK Classic was huge. But the first ship to Northrend was packed to capacity. We were there live:

WotLK Classic is so well received: A few days after the release there was a big discussion about why Wrath of the Lich King was actually the best expansion. Some players said: WotLK is like a drug for them. You enjoy the simplicity.

Now, 2 weeks after the release, fans are discussing what they actually enjoy about WotLK Classic and whether they still play it. A corresponding thread on reddit collected over 1,100 comments after just a few hours.

Where many simply praise them for enjoying the game or even rediscovering their love for World of Warcraft, others declare that they haven't even reached level 80 yet. But that's okay: where some rush through the game, they take what little free time they have.

"The game hits a spot that no other hits"
What players say: The user jschligs explains: “I am married and have children. I gamble every night with friends I haven't gambled with in years when they [the family] are in bed. I'm having a blast."

Many other users tell of similar experiences. They don't have the time they used to put into the game, but that's not a bad thing. WotLK already gets so many things right in the level phase that you're happy to spend time here. The storytelling is widely praised and almost every zone has fans who love it.

Others are surprised that leveling is so exhausting - it used to feel easier. But even with little time, you could have a lot of fun in WotLK gold farming.

However, a big discussion is still the gap between the performance-oriented "elite" players and the "casuals". Some of the best players, and those who follow them, are always looking for that one percent that can make them better.

The community is more divided on this, as the behavior on some servers often affects "normal" players by not inviting them into groups. A user summarizes the situation in a meme.

If you look at the threads, however, the larger part of the community seems to be rather relaxed about the game. Many guilds have not yet started active raiding, and a large proportion of players still have to reach level 80.

Many have decided to take a closer look at the raids this time, to spend more time in them than they did then. And they don't have to rush for that, the first phase is still long enough.

It's not too late to get started either. Now is an even better time to start for relaxed players as the mainstream of players has now dispersed.
